Man in Brest gets eight years in prison for six grams of cannabis
A panel of the Brest Regional Court on May 31 upheld an eight-year prison sentence that had been imposed by a district court on a Brest man for the possession of about six grams of cannabis.
As Darya Zhuk, of the Brest Regional Prosecutor's Office, told BelaPAN, the 32-year-old man was found guilty of purchasing and possessing drugs for the purpose of sale under Part Three of the Criminal Code's Article 328.
The cannabis was found by police officers during a search of the unemployed man’s home on June 26, 2012. The man was arrested three days later.
On March 21, 2013, the Maskowski District Court in Brest sentenced him to eight years in a medium-security correctional institution and ordered the forfeiture of his property.
During the trial, the man denied his guilt, insisting that he had possessed the cannabis for personal use.
