Belarus received $4m from UK for Chernobyl-related projects last year
The United Kingdom provided nearly $4 million to Belarus in 2015 to mitigate the affects of the 1986 Chernobyl-nuclear accident, Belarusian Ambassador in London Siarhei Aleinik said in an interview to RTR-Belarus TV channel.
According to the diplomat, the funding was used for social and humanitarian projects in the Homiel and Mahilou regions. He also noted that UK is the third bigget country, which hosts Belarusian children for treatment and rehabilitation as part of Chernobyl-related assistance efforts.
Siarhei Aleinik added that over a dozen charities in the UK have helped Belarus to mitigate the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear accident for many years, reports BELTA.
