Belarusian Foreign Ministry Expresses Worry about Clashes in Kyrgyzstan
The Belarusian foreign ministry on April 8 issued a statement calling for restraint in Kyrgyzstan where riot police have clashed with anti-government protesters.
"The Republic of Belarus is worried about the events taking place in a friendly country, the Kyrgyz Republic," Andrey Savinykh, a spokesman for the ministry, said in the statement.
"We are sure that street clashes cannot serve as a means of addressing arising problems," Mr. Savinykh said.
The Belarusian foreign ministry calls on "the parties of the conflict to restrain themselves in the interests of the country from using violence, restore political stability in Kyrgyz society and demonstrate readiness to settle all issues within the framework of the law," the spokesman said.
Clashes in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, and other towns on Wednesday left more than 65 people dead and more than 400 injured. The opposition said it had dissolved the parliament and taken power, after the bloody uprising forced the president to flee the capital.
