Lithuanian foreign minister to visit Minsk on February 3
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius will visit Belarus on February 3, Andrej Šupliak, the Belarusian foreign ministry’s spokesman, told BelaPAN, without giving any details of the coming visit.
Opposition politician Anatoĺ Liabiedźka told BelaPAN that Mr. Linkevicius would meet with top government officials and also have a meeting with representatives of Belarus’ civil society. Mr. Liabiedźka, a former chairman of the United Civic Party who currently heads a think tank called European Dialogue, said that he had been invited to the meeting.
The Baltic News Service reported last week that the Lithuanian foreign minister would visit Belarus in early February to offer the country alternative sources of oil and natural gas imports.
“We are interested in seeing Belarus diversify its sources of oil supply, and one of the options is to use the Port of Klaipeda and Lithuania’s railroad,” Mr. Linkevicius was quoted as saying.”
“If there is an interest, we could also discuss issues regarding the supply of natural gas,” Mr. Linkevicius added.
