Armenian PM: We set to discuss Belarus’ selling weapons to Azerbaijan
Armenian Prime Minister Nicol Pashinyan leaves open the possibility of war with Azerbaijan.
“Now the situation is very tense in our region. I mean the policy being pursued by Azerbaijan. The probability of war is strong. And I said that we must be ready for war,” he said in an interview with Echo of Moscow radio station.
At the same time, the politician believes that Russia has all the leverage and opportunity to avoid the war. At his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pashinyan raised the issue of Moscow’s selling weapons to Azerbaijan.
“The embargo on weapons is another issue, and we will continue discussing it not only with Russia but also with Belarus, with our other partners in the CSTO,” he stressed.
Moreover, Nicol Pashinyan confirmed that he had sent his son to serve in Karabakh:
“This was a step to peace, because I think we all understand that if I send my son to Karabakh, I do not want any war there. And God forbid my son and other sons of my people, and sons of Azerbaijan, sons of ordinary Azerbaijani citizens would be killed. It is not logical. I do not want it to happen. I would be happy if the President Ilham Aliyev sent his son to serve there,” he added.
On June 11, Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev inspected Belarusian-made Polonez complexes taken onboard by the Azerbaijani army.
In turn, the Armenian side regrets that Belarus is selling arms to Baku that is in conflict with them taking into account that the both countries are the members of the CSTO.
The Polonez missile systems are the result of military-technical cooperation between Belarus and China. The installation with eight rockets is based on the chassis of the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant. Missiles have individual guidance, with a range of up to 200 km and accuracy of up to 1.7 m. The warhead power is 50 kg in the TNT equivalent.
