UDF Adressed to the President of the OSCE
Presidium of the Political Council of the United Democratic Forces (UDF) decided to address to the President of the OSCE Dora Bakoyannis and the Director of the Bureau of Democracy and Human Rights (ODIHR) Yanez Lenarchich about the statement of the head of the OSCE Office in Minsk, Hans-Georg Schmidt.
During the meeting with the co-chairman of the UDF Anatoly Lebedko Mr. Schmidt said that experts from the ODIHR and the Venice Commission would take into account the amendments to the Electoral Code of Belarus, which were proposed by the authorities.
UDF want to know whether the statement of Mr. Schmidt is a position or the OSCE or his personal position.
"We also proposed to the Director of the ODIHR to hold consultations in order to find out today’s situation with the issue of changing of the electoral legislation. We note that such situation is abnormal: someone writes rules for the political parties, but the parties do not participate in this process", — Anatoly Lebedko said.
