Financial Times: Kerimov planned to visit Minsk instead of Baumgertner
Uralkali key shareholder Suleiman Kerimov blames himself for Vladislav Baumgertner's arrest.
A source close to the Russian oligarch informed this to the Financial Times, writes news.open.by.
The newspaper adds with a reference to an anonymous Uralkali manager that the Uralkali board of directors took the decision to break the agreement with Belkali without the usual approval of the Russian President's administration. The newspaper considers that this explains Vladimir Putin's position who only says about his desire to extinguish the conflict instead of the absolute support to the Russian company. According to the mentioned source, Kerimov blames himself of inability to predict the political consequences of his actions.
The newspaper also informs that Kerimov planned to go to Minsk in late August upon the invitation of the Belarusian PM Mikhail Myasnikovich in order to discuss the situation with the Belarusian Potash Company. However, Baumgertner insisted on going to Minsk instead of Kerimov. In the end, the Uralkali CEO was arrested after the negotiations with Myasnikovich on August 26.
