Rymashewski’s campaign team establishes anti-corruption committee
The campaign team of Vital Rymashewski, the presidential nominee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party, has been set up an anti-corruption committee.
As Mr. Rymashewski told reporters in Minsk on Friday, if he is elected president of Belarus, he will initiate a sort of Lincoln’s Law that would allow citizens to sue on behalf of the government in fraud cases and be paid 25 percent of the recovery. In addition, he would reduce the number of government officials threefold.
"At present there is total corruption in Belarus," Mr. Rymashewski said. "The smaller a provincial city, the higher is the level of corruption there. It is currently impossible to do business without having useful connections and relatives in certain government positions. That is why one of our strategic goals is to eradicate corruption".
In order to suppress corruption, it is necessary to give the maximum possible powers to the bodies of local self-government, Mr. Rymashewski suggested. People themselves should become key fighters against corruption, he stressed.
