Poll points to Alyaksandr Lukashenka as main culprit of economic crisis
Lukashenka is viewed as the main culprit of the current economic crisis in Belarus, according to a poll by the Vilnius-based Independent Institute for Social, Economic and Political Studies (IISEPS).
The poll, conducted in December, interviewed 1,500 adults across the country and had a sampling error margin of plus or minus three percentage points.
As many as 41 percent of those interviewed blamed the crisis on the Belarusian leader, 39.1 percent on the government, 11.5 percent on the opposition, 10.9 percent on Europe, and 7.5 percent on Russia.
At the same time 34.1 percent of the interviewed pinned their hopes of overcoming the crisis on Mr. Lukashenka, 28.8 percent on businesspeople, 24 percent on Russia, 20.7 percent on the West, and 8.6 percent on the opposition.
